That’s the story Shatta Wale is now telling about his bond with Burna Boy. Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, the Ghanaian dancehall star said their once-close friendship fell apart not because of a public falling out, but because of a rumour he never got the chance to deny.
According to Shatta Wale, Burna Boy stood out early on. He was, by Shatta’s account, the only Nigerian artiste who personally called ahead before a Ghana trip and asked to be picked up at the airport. That gesture stuck with him, especially since Burna Boy was going through a rough patch in his career at the time.
Around the same time, Shatta Wale says he was cleaning house professionally, letting go of several team members over misconduct. That decision, he claims, triggered payback. The dismissed associates allegedly began calling influential people in his circle with false stories about his personal life.
The most damaging one, he says, was a claim that he’d had an affair with Burna Boy’s girlfriend during her visit to Ghana. Shatta insists it never happened, but the rumour reportedly reached Burna Boy anyway, and he believed it.
What seems to bother Shatta Wale isn’t just the rumour itself, it’s that Burna Boy never asked him about it directly. No confrontation, no phone call demanding answers. Just distance. Messages went unanswered. A friendship that once felt solid simply faded into silence.
He says he’s since made peace with how his career developed independently of that bond, and insists he holds no grudge against Burna Boy. As of now, Burna Boy hasn’t responded publicly to any of these claims.
