Actor RMD opens up on gifting his wife his biggest cheque, her love language, son Tega’s acting dream, and staying youthful at heart.
Veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo just gave fans a peek into his marriage philosophy, and it’s got people talking. The man popularly known as RMD says the very first massive cheque of his career, roughly ₦100 million, didn’t stay in his account for long. He handed it straight to his wife, no hesitation.
RMD shared the story during a recent chat on The Morayo Show. According to him, his manager collected the payment, and his first instinct was simple: pass it to his wife. When she questioned whether he wanted her to save it for their children instead, his answer was blunt. He told her to keep it for herself.
He explained that even though most of that money would eventually circle back to benefit their kids anyway, he still makes a point of directing his biggest wins toward his wife first. For him, it’s about making sure she never has to ask him for anything.
Every couple communicates affection differently, and RMD says he’s figured out exactly what works for his wife. Gifts, not sweet nothings, speak loudest to her. He joked that flowers and chocolates don’t quite cut it anymore, and that even a trip abroad needs a shopping stop to really count.
What seems to matter most to him isn’t the spending itself, but what it represents. He says one of his proudest moments is hearing his wife tell others, unprompted, that her husband takes care of everything she needs.
The conversation also turned to family life closer to home. RMD spoke about his son Tega’s decision to pursue acting, a move that caught him off guard since none of his children had shown interest in the profession before. He only found out at Tega’s graduation, during a casual photo moment, that acting was the plan all along.
Asked about his youthful energy, RMD credited healthy eating, regular exercise, and a mindset piece of advice from an elder: growing older doesn’t mean your thinking has to grow old too.
