Ronke Oshodi-Oke opens up about getting paid to stand beside politicians, and her honest reason will make you see it differently.
You know that thing where a celebrity is spotted with a politician and everyone starts dragging them online? Ronke Oshodi-Oke just decided to save everyone the trouble and explain herself first.
The veteran Nollywood actress sat down for an interview with African A-List, and when they asked her point blank if she takes money to endorse politicians, she didn’t dodge it. She said yes. Plainly. No shame, no long story.
Here’s the thing though, and this is honestly the part that got people talking. She wasn’t asking anyone to agree with her politics. She was basically asking Nigerians to understand that bills don’t care who you voted for.
“Just let her eat”
In her own words, she said, “My dear Nigerians if you see me endorsing any politician, just look away don’t insult or drag me. I have gone to look for daily bread, please try to understand.”
She went further, explaining that anytime she’s seen standing behind a politician, people shouldn’t read too much into it. “If you see me behind any politician, anybody, just see it as if she is looking for something to put food on the table. Just leave, let her eat. Do not insult or drag me.”
And to be fair, she drew a clear line. Taking a brand deal from a politician isn’t the same as endorsing their agenda, and she made sure that distinction was clear. On the actual state of Nigerian politics, she stayed far away from it. “Nigeria politics is dirty, so I do not want to talk about it,” she said, adding that she’s not out here telling anyone who to vote for.
It’s a refreshingly blunt take, honestly. In an industry where celebrities usually give vague, careful answers, she just laid it out.
The interview didn’t stop there either. She also touched on her long-standing silence with fellow actress Sotayo Gaga, a rift that’s lasted about five or six years now. They apparently just walk past each other at events these days, no wahala, no drama, just quiet. Interestingly, when Oshodi-Oke fell ill recently, Gaga still sent her ₦150,000, even though the two aren’t on speaking terms. Sometimes people show love in ways that don’t fit into neat boxes.
She also opened up a bit about her health struggles, her faith journey into the Celestial Church of Christ, and the emotional weight of her past marriage, something she’s touched on before but still carries visibly.
At the end of the day, her message was simple: life is hard, everybody’s hustling differently, and maybe a little grace goes a long way.
