Mr P opened up about the real story behind P-Square’s 2021 reunion, claiming it was only ever about family, not music.
Remember that viral moment in 2021 when Mr P walked up to Rudeboy and hugged him after years of silence? Turns out there’s a lot more to that story than we ever knew.
Mr P has now come out to say the whole “P-Square is back” narrative that followed wasn’t really true. According to him, he only wanted his brother back as family. The group reuniting as a music act? That was never really the plan.
Mr P says it all started on a flight back from Atlanta. Just before landing in Lagos, he got a message from his caretaker asking him to forgive Paul, who had reportedly gone to apologise to Mr P’s wife, Lola, in the early hours of that morning.
When he got home, both their teams were already waiting. His wife came back from work in tears, telling him how Paul had shown up at 4am, held onto her leg, and kept saying he was tired. That’s when things started moving.
On his wife’s advice, Mr P went over to Paul’s house to reconcile. And yes, that’s the exact moment that ended up going viral online.
The next day, talk of reviving P-Square as a group came up, and Mr P says he shut it down immediately. In his words: “Bro, hope I’m not part of this P-Square… we are back as brothers. For P-Square, I am done for now, maybe in the future.”
He insists it was Jude, their elder brother, who pushed for a reunion video to introduce them to fans. Mr P claims he wasn’t even comfortable with it at first, wondering how they’d explain themselves without officially bringing back the group.
This isn’t coming out of nowhere. It follows Mr P’s recent apology over comments he made about Nigerian languages, which sparked backlash online. He says Rudeboy used that moment to try to drag his name further through the mud, and that’s part of why he’s decided to finally speak on what he calls the real story.
He didn’t hold back either, saying he’s done “being Mr. Nice Guy.”
This family drama is far from over, and Mr P has made it plain he’s ready to keep talking.
